DYA Division Placement Policy

Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure fair competition, appropriate player development, and consistent procedures across all Dublin Youth Athletics (DYA) sports programs. By establishing clear guidelines for age and grade placement, DYA seeks to provide a safe and equitable playing environment that prioritizes the developmental needs of all participants.

Policy Statement
All players participating in DYA sports must register according to their current age or grade level, as defined by the specific sport’s division structure. Players are not permitted to register for or be placed in a division above their eligible age or grade level during the registration process.

Requests from parents or guardians to place a player in a higher age or grade division before registration will not be considered or approved. The following exceptions may be made:

  • You are coaching your child’s team, and you would like the sibling to play up one grade/age level.
  • At the discretion of the program director for the specific sport, a player may be moved up one level to address safety concerns.

Rationale for the Policy
This policy has been implemented to support several important objectives:

  • Player Safety:Ensuring athletes compete with peers of similar age and physical development helps reduce injury risk.
  • Fair Competition:Maintaining consistent age and grade groupings preserves competitive balance across teams and divisions.
  • Player Development:Athletes develop best when competing against peers at similar developmental stages rather than being prematurely advanced.
  • Administrative Consistency:Establishing a uniform policy across all sports prevents confusion, ensures fairness for all families, and simplifies the registration and team formation process.
  • Team Stability:Preventing pre-registration movement between divisions allows for more predictable roster sizes and balanced team assignments.

Implementation
This policy applies to all DYA recreational sports programs and will be enforced beginning with the fall 2026 registration cycle. Program Directors are responsible for ensuring compliance and for managing any evaluation requests that occur after team rosters are finalized.
