33rd Annual DYA Travel Basketball Holiday Tournament

Dublin Youth Athletics

4th-6th Grade Boys & Girls, December 13-15, 2024

Ohio youth basketball teams are invited to compete in this annual event!
The 33rd Annual DYA Travel Basketball Holiday Tournament will have six divisions and a maximum of 48 teams.

Girls 6th Grade

The tournament is held at Dublin City Schools middle school gymnasiums including Dublin Davis, Dublin Eversole Run, Dublin Grizzell, Dublin Karrer, and Dublin Sells.

Teams are guaranteed to play 3 games and may play up to 5 games. Pool play (3 games) is on Friday & Saturday and semifinals and championships are on Sunday afternoon/early evening. Most teams are scheduled for one Friday night game and two Saturday pool play games.

There is space on the registration form for coaches to include any scheduling requests. Most schedule requests are able to be accommodated.

Trophies/medals are awarded to the Champions & Runners-Up of each division.

Tournament Entry Fee: $300 per team

Registration closes on Wednesday, December 1 and is first come, first served. If there are fewer than six teams in a division, a round robin-style tournament will be played for that division.

2024 DYA Holiday Basketball Tournament Official Rules

Unless otherwise noted, all games are played according to Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) rules using a 28.5'' ball.

For BOTH the 4th Grade Boys and Girls, we will employ the COBA 4th Grade League Rules which specify the following:
1. Free throws may be taken from a distance of 12' away from the basket (as approximated by the referee, no markings will be put on the floors).
2. No zone defenses.
3. No trapping by the defense in the half-court situation. Penalty will be a stoppage of play, a warning and an in-bounds possession granted to the Offense.
4. No full-court pressing allowed by either team until the last two minutes of the game. Penalty will be a stoppage of play, a warning and an in-bounds possession awarded to the offense.
5. No full-court pressing allowed by the leading team if they are up 15 points or more. Penalty will be a stoppage of play, a warning and an in-bounds possession awarded to the offense.

Pool Play (Friday & Saturday)

All preliminary round tournament games (Pool Play - Friday and Saturday games) will use a running clock with four 10-minute quarters. The only exceptions for clock stoppages will be player injuries, time-outs and the final two (2) minutes of the fourth quarter where the clock will stop on all whistles.
Each team will be allowed two one-minute time-outs per half with no carryover.
Bonus free throws (two shots) begin on the fifth team foul per quarter.
Typically, four minutes will be established for halftime.
Warm-up and halftime duration may be shortened anytime during the Tournament in order to keep games on schedule at the discretion of the Site Coordinator and the officials.
Overtime: In preliminary round games, there is one two-minute running clock overtime period for games tied after regulation. Each team will receive one time-out during the overtime period. The clock will stop on all whistles in the final 30 seconds of overtime. If the game is still tied after one overtime, there will be a one-minute intermission and a sudden death overtime will be played with the game ending whenever one team has a two (2) point lead. No time-outs or substitutions will be allowed during the sudden death overtime, except to replace injured, sick or disqualified players.

Tie-breakers for Pool Play

Overall record in the preliminary games, counting only those games played between teams in the same Pool.
Head to head winner.
For three team ties, the highest total cumulative point spread over the three games will determine the order of finish, with a maximum of 13 points differential per game. For example: If team A beats team B by 19 points, team A is credited with +13 and team B is credited with -13. Only games played between teams in the same pool will be counted. Teams will be ranked first, second, third. Note: If there is a two-way tie for point differential for first among the teams tied with the top pool record, then the head to head winner of those two is ranked first and the head to head loser is ranked second. If there is a two-way tie for point differential for second among the teams tied with the top pool record, the head to head winner is ranked second. If there is a three way tie (all three teams have a net zero), continue to step 4.
Fewest total cumulative points allowed over the three games, including only those games played between teams in the same pool. Teams will be ranked first, second, third. Note: If there is a two-way tie for points allowed for first among the teams tied with the top pool record, then the head to head winner of those two is ranked first and the head to head loser is ranked second. If there is a two-way tie for points allowed for second among the teams tied with the top pool record, the head to head winner is ranked second. If there is a three way tie (all three teams have the same points allowed), continue to step 5.
Coin flip.
Coaches - please be available by phone and e-mail on Saturday night after 8:00 PM if you are in contention for Sunday play. Any team the Tournament Directors are unable to contact will not advance to Sunday's championship rounds.

Championship Sunday (including championship, semi-final, and third place games)

All championship, semi-final, and third place games (called championship round games) will consist of four six (6) minute quarters with a stopped clock for all whistles.
In championship round (Sunday) games one minute will be allowed between quarters and five minutes for halftime.
Warm-up and halftime duration may be shortened anytime during the tournament in order to keep games on schedule.
For championship round (Sunday) games, if the game is tied after regulation, there will be a one (1), three minute overtime with one time-out per team in each overtime; if still tied, a second three minute overtime will be played with one additional time-out given to each team; if still tied, the game will go to sudden death with the first team to lead by two (2) points declared the winner.

DYA Basketball practices and games are held at Dublin City Schools gymnasiums. School doors will unlock 10 minutes prior to the start of practices/games. At elementary & middle schools, enter through the door numbers listed below.
