Youth basketball Officials - PROGRAM INFORMATION

The DYA Youth Basketball Officials program is open to 8th-12th graders who reside in the City of Dublin or within boundaries of Dublin City Schools.

Officials work DYA Recreational Basketball 3rd-5th grade Boys & Girls Developmental League games and can expect to be scheduled to work 20 to 40 games per season. Regular season games begin in early December, and the tournament concludes in late February. Games are played on Saturday mornings and afternoons at Dublin elementary school gymnasiums.

All training is facilitated by licensed Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) officials. Additional information regarding training clinics will be e-mailed to all registered applicants as the season approaches.

Game Scheduling: Officials submit their weekly availability to the Program Coordinator. Officials playing in the DYA Recreational Basketball League are never scheduled to work during their games.

Winter Break: No games are scheduled from December 21 through January 9.

Concussion Certification: Ohio Law requires all officials to be certified in concussion recognition. The free online certification course takes about 30 minutes to complete and is found at http://nfhslearn.com/courses/concussion-in-sports-2. Upon completion of the course, a certificate is issued. Concussion certification is good for three years.

Uniform Shirts: Referee uniform shirts (adult sizes S, M, L, XL, XXL) are available for purchase for $20. Rookie officials receive a whistle.

Officials Classifications:
Junior Class 1: 1st Year officials and 2nd Year officials with fewer than 15 games of experience
Junior Class 2: 2nd Year officials with 15+ games of experience and 3rd Year officials with fewer than 30 games of experience
Junior Class 3: 3rd Year officials with 30+ games of experience
Senior: 4th Year or above (note: Class 3 officials may substitute for Senior Officials)

Senior Officials work on the court the entire game.
Junior Officials work on the court for one half and operate the scoreboard for the other half.

Officials Pay:
Game Pay
Senior Officials: $20 per game
Junior Officials: $15 per game

Bonus Pay (paid at the end of the season)
Senior Officials: $200 bonus for working 25+ games OR $100 bonus for 20-24 games with zero no-shows
Junior Officials: $100 bonus for working 20+ games with zero no-shows

Officials Preseason Training Schedule

New Officials:

New officials must pass a basketball rules test to become an official. Study material (DYA Basketball Officials Study Guide & DYA Basketball Rules) is available. Applicants must score at least 75% to pass the test. A retake may be offered based on the need for officials.

New Officials Training Day 1: Informational Meeting & Rules Test
Sunday, November 2, 12:15 PM to 3:00 PM OR Monday, November 3, 6:15 PM to 9:00 PM at DYA Office (6543 Commerce Pkwy, Suite G) (only attend one meeting/test date)

New Officials Training Day 2: On-Court Training
Sunday, November 9, 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Dublin Scioto HS

New Officials Training Day 3: Scrimmages
Sunday, November 16, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Dublin Scioto HS (1 to 2 hours of scrimmages are required)
Officials will be assigned scrimmage times following the November 9 training session.

Returning Officials:

Returning Officials Training Day 1: Informational Meeting
Sunday, November 2 from 3:15 PM to 4:30 PM OR Thursday, November 6 from 7:15 PM to 8:30 PM at DYA Office (6543 Commerce Pkwy, Suite G): Informational Meeting (only attend one meeting date)

Returning Officials Training Day 2: Scrimmages
Sunday, November 9 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM OR Sunday, November 16 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Dublin Scioto HS (attend only 1-2 hours on one of the dates)
Returning officials will sign up for their scrimmage times at the end of the Informational Meeting.

Attendance at training is mandatory for all new and returning Youth Officials.

Basketball Scorekeepers - PROGRAM INFORMATION

The DYA Scorekeepers program is open to 9th-12th graders who reside in the City of Dublin or within the boundaries of Dublin City Schools.

Scorekeepers operate the scoreboard for games in the 6th-12th Grade Boys & Girls DYA Recreational Basketball League from early December to late February. Games are played at Dublin City Schools gymnasiums on Saturdays & Sundays, primarially in the afternoon and early evening. Scorekeepers also have the opportunity to work the annual DYA Travel Basketball Holiday Tournament in December.

Two hours of training for basketball scorekeepers is provided by DYA. Additional information regarding scorekeeper training will be emailed to all registered applicants as the season approaches.

Scorekeeper Training Day 2: Wednesday, November 19 at Karrer Middle School (7245 Tullymore Dr)
7:45 PM to 8:45 PM: Scoreboard Training

Attendance at training is mandatory for all new and returning Scorekeepers.
