The purpose of the DYA Travel Basketball Program is to further the development of basketball players in 4th-6th grade who demonstrate basketball skills and abilities above the typical recreational league player by providing them with practice opportunities and games in a more competitive setting.
All Travel Basketball players must be in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and reside within the limits of the Dublin City School District or within the City of Dublin to be eligible for league play and tournament participation.
Games are almost always scheduled on weekends. Home games are played on Sunday afternoons and early evenings primarily at Dublin City Schools middle school gymnasiums: Davis, Eversole Run, Grizzell, Karrer, and Sells. Away games are typically on Saturdays. Teams play 14 to 16 regular season games. Games begin in early December and continue through mid-February.
Practices are held on weeknights beginning at 6:30 PM or occasionally 8:00 PM and are 90 minutes in length. Practices are held at Dublin middle school and elementary school gymnasiums. Practices begin in late October or early November.
All teams participate in at least three tournaments including the Dublin Holiday Tournament, the COBA (Central Ohio Basketball Association) Championship Tournament, and a third tournament selected by each team's coach.
Winter Break: Generally, there are no practices or games are scheduled during Winter Break from December 21 through January 3.
Coaches Needed: Dublin Youth Athletics is a volunteer organization of parents providing sports programs for kids. If you are able to serve as the head or assistant coach of your child's team, please check the box on the registration form indicating that you're willing to coach your child's Travel Basketball team.
***Travel Basketball Registration Information:***
To register for Travel Basketball, families must register their child for Recreational Basketball. There is a question on the registration form that asks, "Are you trying out for DYA Travel Basketball?" Answer "Yes" and complete the registration and you'll be registered for Travel Basketball tryouts.
If your child does make the travel team:
We will transfer the Recreational Basketball fee and put it towards the Travel Basketball fee.
If your child does NOT make the travel team:
Your child can remain in the Recreational Basketball League or request for a refund. This is done because registration for Recreational Basketball closes before Travel Basketball tryouts are complete. The child could get shutout if they wait to register after the outcome of Travel Basketball tryouts. This prevents the child from being wait-listed.
